Après la révolution de 1979 et la création de la République islamique d’Iran, la danse, comme certaines autres formes d’art, fut bannie. De nombreux artistes, qui avaient participé au mouvement révolutionnaire, résistèrent à la censure et aux lois imposées par le régime islamique et furent exécutés, emprisonnés ou forcés de s’exiler. Mme Ayam Bayat est une de ces artistes. Chorégraphe iranienne en exil, elle garde vivante la danse folklorique persane depuis 20 ans.

After the 1979 revolution and the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran, along with other restricted areas of art, dancing was also banned. Many of the artists, who had helped shape the revolution, resisted the censorship and rules of the Islamic regime and were executed, put in prison or were forced into exile. Ms. Aram Bayat is one of those artists. She is an Iranian choreographer in exile who has kept Persian folk dancing alive for the last two decades.

Lila Ghobady

Née en 1974, en Iran, elle a fait ses débuts comme journaliste à l’hebdomadaire Cinéma, à l’âge de 18 ans. Par la suite elle fait des recherches et écrit sur les femmes et les religions minoritaires en Iran pour plusieurs journaux et magazines. Elle fut la première femme à diriger le service des communications de la Maison nationale des arts, à Téhéran et a aussi produit quelques films clandestins. Ce film est le premier qu’elle réalise de façon indépendant depuis son arrivée comme réfugiée au Canada en 2002.

Lila Ghobady was born in 1974 in Iran. She began working for the Iranian weekly film magazine Cinema as a journalist at the age of 18. Later on she did some researching and writing on women’s issues and minority religions in Iran for several magazines and newspapers. She was the first female communications manager at the National Arts House in Tehran and also produced a few secretly made documentaries. This is her first independent film since she arrived in Canada as a refugee in February 2002.
