Parmi les tout premiers soldats morts en Irak, cinq étaient d’origine latino-américaine, dont trois n’avaient pas la citoyenneté américaine. Quelques jours à peine après le déclenchement de la guerre, Jesus Suarez del Solar, un Mexicain, sautait sur une mine américaine placée dans le désert irakien. Depuis, son père Fernando Suarez del Solar se bat pour que cesse le harcèlement des recruteurs de l’armée américaine envers les jeunes hispaniques dans les « high schools » américains. Il se bat pour que cesse la guerre en Irak.

The war in Iraq has been raging for the last five years. American soldiers are increasingly exhausted by a conflict that drags on. Five soldiers of Latin American origin were among the first casualties of the Iraqi war. Three of them did not have American citizenship. Just a few days after the conflict began, Jesus Suarez stepped on an American mine hidden in the sands of the desert. He was from Mexico. His father Fernando Suarez has been fighting ever since to halt the aggressive tactics of U.S. Army recruiters who target Hispanic kids in American high schools. And he wants the war to come to an end.

Cette cinéaste se passionne pour l’information internationale depuis plus de 25 ans. En 1983, elle fait partie de la petite équipe de trois qui conçoit et met sur pied Nord-Sud à Télé-Québec, émission d’information internationale qui deviendra un point de référence dans le domaine au Québec. En 1995, elle fonde avec Patricio Henriquez et Robert Cornellier, une maison de production privée, Macumba International, dédiée à l’information internationale. Raymonde y poursuit une carrière de réalisatrice et de productrice.

Raymonde Provencher has been roving the world, led by her passion for international issues, for over twenty-five years. In 1995, she founded with Patricio Henriquez and Robert Cornellier, a private production company, Macumba International, where she both directs and produces documentary films.
