Ali et Merdad fuient l’Iran avec leurs cousins Asy, sept ans, et Arman, cinq ans, pour les ramener à leurs parents qui vivent en Autriche. Mais ils doivent d’abord passer par la Turquie pour y attendre un hypothétique visa qui tarde à venir. Ils font alors la connaissance d’autres réfugiés iraniens : un couple et leur petit garçon cherchant à prouver aux pouvoirs publics qu’ils sont persécutés pour des motifs politiques, un professeur et un jeune Kurde qui surmontent leurs difficultés quotidiennes grâce à un incroyable sens de l’humour… Des hommes et des femmes qui attendent désespérément de gagner l’Europe, terre de libertés…

Ali et Merdad flee Iran with their cousins Asy, 7 and Arman, 5, to reach the children’s parents in Austria. But they have to transit via Turkey and wait for a hypothetical visa that longs to arrive. They meet other Iranian refugees: a couple and their young son trying to convince the officials that they were persecuted for political motives, a professor and a young Kurd who overcome their daily difficulties thanks to an incredible sense of humour…Men and women desperately waiting to cross to Europe, land of freedoms …

Arash T. Riahi

Né en 1972 en Iran, Arash T. Riahi vit depuis 1982 à Vienne. Il a fait ses études en arts et cinéma et dès 1995, travaille comme pigiste pour le diffuseur national autrichien ORF comme scénariste et réalisateur aux départements jeunesse et culture. Il fonde la Golden Girls Filmproduction en 1998 (www.goldengirls.at). Pour un instant la liberté est son premier long métrage de fiction.

Arash T. Riahi was born in 1972 in Iran, and has been living in Vienna since 1982. He studied in arts and cinema and in 1995, started working for the Austrian national broadcaster, ORF as a freelance scriptwriter and director, in the youth and culture department. He then founded Golden Girls Filmproduction in 1998 (www.goldengirls.at). Freedom for a Moment is Riahi’s first fiction feature-length film.
