Lors de la cérémonie d'ouverture de la 8ème Biennale des Cinémas Arabes, à l'Institut du Monde Arabe (IMA), le 22 juillet 2006 à Paris, les cinéastes arabes, invités à présenter leur film, ont lancé un appel en réaction à l'agression israélienne au Liban et en Palestine. Des centaines d'autres cinéastes du monde entier s'y sont joints pour témoigner leur soutien. Cet appel invitait chacun à réaliser un film court sur le sujet, de là où il se trouve, et à former ainsi une chaîne d'images proposées par chacun à la programmation de tous les festivals, cinémas et lieux imaginables… Cinesoumoud regroupe une trentaine de ces films réalisés dans l'urgence pendant la guerre de cet été.
During the opening ceremonies of the 8 th Biennale des Cinémas Arabes, held on July 22, 2006 , at the Institut du monde arabe (IMA) in Paris , Arab filmmakers who were presenting their films at the event launched an appeal in response to Israeli aggression in Lebanon and Palestine . Hundreds of other filmmakers around the world expressed their support for the project. Filmmakers were invited to make a short film from wherever they were, creating a chain of images that could be submitted to festivals, cinemas and other venues. Cinesoumoud brings together some 30 films produced as a matter of urgency during the summer of 2006.
