En 2004, une petite équipe de trois cinéastes indépendants se rend dans le Darfour, entre le Soudan et le Tchad oriental. Après plusieurs mois passés à prendre le pouls d’une crise politique et humanitaire qui empire, ils se rendent à l’évidence : la couverture médiatique achoppe. L’équipe décide donc de fournir une tribune aux citoyens du Darfour, autant ceux de l’intérieur de la région que les réfugiés du Tchad. Le projet vise à donner la parole aux individus pour qu’ils puissent partager leur expérience, leurs angoisses, et leurs visions d’espoir pour l’avenir. Le conflit sous-tend la trame d’un film qui se veut le portrait d’une population évoluant au coeur d’une situation s’apparentant dangereusement à un génocide.

In 2004 a team of three independent filmmakers left for Darfur, Sudan and eastern Chad. After monitoring the worsening political and humanitarian crisis for months and recognizing that the mainstream media offered marginal and inadequate coverage, the team set out with the goal of providing a platform for the people of Darfur (both those displaced inside Darfur and those living in refugee camps in Chad) to speak for themselves about their experiences, their fears, and their hopes for the future. The conflict serves as the ongoing narrative in the film, but the focus is on the people who are living through what has been termed a “genocide.”

Aisha Bain
Aisha Bain est directrice adjointe du programme pour l’Asie de l’organisme Global Rights : Partners for Justice. Elle occupait précédemment le poste de directrice adjointe du Centre pour la prévention des génocides, où elle a mené des études approfondies et assuré une couverture médiatique des massacres du Darfour dans le nord de l’Ouganda, tout en lançant activement des appels à l’action dans la communauté internationale.
Aisha Bain is the Asia Program Associate at Global Rights: Partners for Justice. She served as Deputy Director at the Center for the Prevention of Genocide where she worked extensively investigating and reporting the massacres in Darfur and Northern Uganda, and lobbying for international action.

Jen Marlowe
Jen Marlowe est cofondatrice de l’initiative « Rachel’s Words » (www.rachelswords.org). Elle coordonne actuellement un projet jeunesse de consolidation de la paix à Mostar, en Bosnie-Herzégovine. Jen a également assuré la direction artistique de la troupe de théâtre à vocation éducative Two Roads Ensemble, à Seattle.
Jen Marlowe is a founding member of the "Rachel's Words" initiative (www.rachelswords.org). She is also currently facilitating a youth peace-building project in Mostar, Bosnia-Hercegovina. Previously, Jen worked as the artistic director of Two Roads Theatre Ensemble, a theatre education company in Seattle.

Adam Shapiro
Adam Shapiro a récemment occupé le poste de directeur en Afghanistan pour l’organisme des droits de la personne Global Rights (www.globalrights.org). Il est cofondateur du groupe de solidarité palestinienne International Solidarity Movement (www.palsolidarity.org), et siège au conseil d’administration de l’organisme Partners for Peace.
Adam Shapiro most recently served as Country Director in Afghanistan for the international human rights organization Global Rights (www.globalrights.org). Adam is also a co-founder of the International Solidarity Movement (www.palsolidarity.org) in Palestine. Adam serves on the Board of Directors of Partners for Peace (www.partnersforpeace.org).
