Tourné en avril 2004 au Rwanda à l'occasion des représentations du spectacle théâtral RWANDA 94, le film donne la parole à des rescapés du génocide dans leur réalité d’aujourd’hui durant cette période particulière de deuil. Qu'est la vie, pour eux, 10 ans après le génocide ? La mémoire du génocide s’y recherche, s’y établit à travers les réveils traumatiques, les évocations, les déterrements et enterrements de victimes dans la dignité, les peurs et inquiétudes face aux menaces qui pèsent encore sur eux. Ils expriment leur profond ressentiment à notre égard suite à l’abandon et au silence complice de la communauté internationale pendant le génocide, mais aussi l’exclusion, les discriminations et la violence dont ils sont toujours victimes.

Filmed in Rwanda in April 2004, during performances of the show Rwanda 94, this documentary allows the survivors of the genocide to speak out on their current reality during this special period of mourning. What is life like for them, 10 years after the genocide? The memory of the genocide is sought out, is established through the traumatic awakenings, the evocations, the disinterment and dignified burial of victims, the fears and worries with regard to the threats that still weigh upon them today. They express their profound resentment of us for having abandoned them, and of the international community for their silent complicity during the genocide, but also of the exclusion, discriminations and violence to which they are still submitted.

Marie-France Collard
Marie-France Collard est née à Neufchâteau. Autodidacte, depuis les années 80, elle est assistante et/ou monteuse sur des documentaires. Elle a collaboré notamment à l’écriture de différents projets avec Michel Jakar et Jean-Claude Riga. Elle a également travaillé à la RTBF. Depuis 1990, elle accompagne «Groupov», une société de production basée en Belgique, qui se définit comme un Centre Expérimental de Culture Active. Elle a co-écrit en 2000 la pièce de théâtre Rwanda 1994. Elle a aussi réalisé Maîtresses (1996) et Ouvrière du Monde (2000).

Marie-France Collard was born in Neufchâteau, Belgium. She is self-taught and worked as assistant and editor on many documentaries during the 1980s. She has co-written various projects with Michel Jakar and Jean-Claude Riga, and worked at RTBF. Since 1990, she has been a member of Groupov, a production company based in Belgium that calls itself an Experimental Centre for Active Culture. In 2000, she co-wrote the play Rwanda 1994. She also directed Maîtresses (1996) and Ouvrières du Monde (2000).
