Depuis des générations, la famille Amer cultive des olives, des oranges et des fleurs sous le soleil de Palestine. Avec la construction d’un mur entre Israël et la Cisjordanie sur leur terre, Hani Amer, sa femme et leur six enfants sont devenus prisonniers dans leur propre maison, refusant de quitter leur foyer devenu une zone militaire israélienne. Cette famille tranquille vit en permanence une humiliante guerre des nerfs au milieu de clôtures électrifiées, de portails verrouillés et de soldats armés. La cinéaste a choisi une approche minimaliste, un rythme hypnotique et des images d’une grande beauté formelle pour un film sans mots mais lourd de sens. Un vibrant hommage au courage muet de cette famille digne, qui pose une question vitale: qu’est-ce qu’une frontière?

For generations, the Amer family has grown olives, oranges and flowers under the Palestinian sun. But their lives have been disrupted by the wall built on their land to separate Israel from the West Bank. Hani Amer, his wife and their six children have become prisoners in their own home. Having refused to relocate, they live in what is now an Israeli military zone. Day and night, the family wages a humiliating war of nerves in the midst of electrified fences, locked gates and armed soldiers. The filmmaker takes a minimalist approach to her subject, establishing a hypnotic rhythm and offering images of great formal beauty in a wordless film that is nonetheless ripe with meaning. A vibrant tribute to a family’s quiet courage, and an important question: what is the meaning of borders?
