Kahunya a grandi dans une communauté missionnaire au Kenya, où son père est évêque. Ana Claudia était une célèbre annonceuse sportive pour la télévision brésilienne. Arslan est né dans une famille religieuse de la « noblesse » pakistanaise. Tous trois vivent depuis toujours avec un secret dangereux qui aurait pu détruire leur vie : l’homosexualité. Un portrait intime sur la vulnérabilité commune de trois réfugiés étonnants ayant reçu l’asile aux États-Unis en fonction de leur orientation sexuelle. Leur histoire émouvante expose le prix de cette liberté et sa valeur inestimable : un refuge sécuritaire et l’occasion de vivre en toute dignité leur homosexualité.
Kahunya grew up on a mission station in Kenya where his father is a Bishop. Ana Claudia was a famous sportscaster on Brazilian television. Arslan was born into a religious “noble family” in Pakistan. All three have lived with a dangerous secret which could have destroyed lives: they are homosexuals. The film is an intimate gift of vulnerability shared with us by three striking refugees who have been granted asylum in the US based on their sexual orientation. Their moving stories help us to understand both the price of their freedom and its infinite value, not only in providing a safe haven but the opportunity for dignified lives as homosexuals.

Jill Burnett
Jill Burnett est née au Canada en 1962 et vit aujourd’hui en France. Après 15 années comme conseillère en microcrédit, elle s’est lancée dans le documentaire. Visant à éveiller les consciences sociales, ses films explorent les problèmes globaux du monde contemporain, avec une attention particulière portée aux enjeux interculturels et aux droits de la personne. This Way Out est sa première production indépendante.
Jill Burnett was born in Canada in 1962 and currently lives in France. After 15 years as a microfinance consultant, Jill began documentary filmmaking. Driven by her interest in raising social consciousness, her films explore contemporary global problems, with a particular emphasis on cross-cultural issues and human rights. This way out is her first independent production.
Antonin Lhotsky
Diplômé de l’École supérieure de cinéma de Prague (FAMU), en République tchèque, Antonin Lhotsky enseigne la production cinéma et vidéo à l’Université York, à Toronto. En tant que cinéaste, Lhotsky a contribué à plus de cent productions, principalement à la prise de vues, mais également à la production, à la réalisation et au montage de films documentaires et de fiction. Il est récipiendaire de nombreux prix récompensant son travail.
Antonin Lhotsky is a graduate of F.A.M.U., the Czechoslovakia Film Academy in Prague and is Professor of Film and Video Production at York University in Toronto. As a filmmaker, Antonin has accumulated more than 100 film credits, mostly in cinematography but also as producer, director and editor in documentary and theatrical films. His work has received many awards.
