MHRFF Quebec Prize for Socially Engaged Documentary

Are children being pushed prematurely into adulthood? Sophie Bissonnette's documentary Sexy Inc. Our Children Under Influence analyses the hypersexualization of our environment and its noxious effects on young people. Psychologists, teachers and school nurses criticise the unhealthy culture surrounding our children, where marketing and advertising are targeting younger and younger audiences and bombarding them with sexual and sexist images.

Sophie Bissonnette
Sophie Bissonnette is a graduate in film studies and sociology from Queen's University, Kingston, and has been making documentary films in Quebec for 30 years (Quel numéro/What Number?, A Vision in the Darkness (portray of the activist Lea Roback). She founded Les Productions Contre-jour. Her films deal with various social issues: work, women struggle, discrimination, mental health, international solidarity... She has taught film in college and university and has been very active to defend independent documentary cinema. She is a founding member of
