North American Premiere José P. Ramirez is a young and charismatic Mexican school teacher. He has lived the past twenty years for the Chatinos communities of the Sierra Madre. Indians who were until then left to analphabetism and exile to the U.S. The teacher radically transforms Chatinos' lives when he starts running the first secondary school programme through satellite in the region. To stand for elementary rights like girls’ access to education is a permanent struggle. Today, many of his former girl students study in some of Mexico's best universities. They plan to return home and take up the community leadership. Under our eyes, through the strength received through emancipation, they convey to the Indian communities in Mexico a message of modernity and hope. Selections Lucas Mouzas |
